Medical retina services focus on conditions affecting the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye that is essential for vision. Many retinal conditions are common and can be effectively managed with early assessment and appropriate treatment.
Care is tailored to the individual patient and may include medical treatments such as eye drops or laser therapy, depending on the diagnosis and clinical findings. The aim is to preserve vision, slow disease progression, and maintain long-term retinal health.
Conditions managed (non-exhaustive)
- Age-related macular degeneration - A leading cause of vision loss in older adults, affecting the central part of the retina.
- Diabetic eye disease - Including diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular oedema, which can threaten vision in people with diabetes.
- Retinal vein occlusion - Blockage of the veins carrying blood away from the retina, causing bleeding and fluid leakage.
- Macular haemorrhage - Bleeding in the central retina requiring prompt assessment and management.
All patients are assessed and treated by Miss Korina Theodoraki, providing consultant-led care in line with current UK clinical standards, with emphasis on clear communication, evidence-based treatment, and a personalised approach.
